Warroora Station

I am writing this from Carnarvon - Friday Night, 16th September .....

We left Coral Bay for Warroora Station with only about 250 kms to travel today so there was no pressure to leave really early.     The last 10 kms of our trip was dirt road until we came across white sand.   The road along the beach was hard, compacted sand so we had no trouble getting to our site.    We couldn't believe our luck when we managed to get one of the best sites on the beach and along side 2 of our neighbours from Osprey Camp.

The beach was a little piece of paradise with torquoise water & white sandy bay & of course we had great company as well.    What more could you want.....  great weather, swimming, kayaking, fishing, camp fires, reading, great food & lots of Happy Hours !!    We all decided to stay the week!

I think I mentioned our "Shark attack" in my blog from Osprey..... these are my "shark" friends from left .....Patty, Annette, yours truly & Kathie.   After our shark experience we formed a bond and became the "Shark Girls".    On our "Girls Day Out" to Coral Bay we found shark rings which we are showing everyone in the picture.

The girls walking back with their noodles from our 1 km walk to have a swim with one of the other girls who was camped right at the end of the beach.  We decided we would walk up everyday for a swim and Merv & Annette wandered down to our camp for Happy Hour!!!   Our camp is in the background of this picture and as you can see we are very close to the water here.

Kathie, Patty & me enjoying a few wines around the camp fire.......

Here are the "Shark Girls" and the "Spangled Emperors" enjoying one of our many Happy Hours.
At the back John, Merv, Tony, Kel & front Kathie, Annette, Patty & me!

This is "The Happy Hour Bush!    The sea breeze seemed to come up late afternoon but found  it was very sheltered behind the bush.    Our Happy Hour area was on the road, but as we were up the best end of the beach & only a hand full of campers up this end... we only had to get up for 1 car passing & they decided to join us!)   We shared a great fish meal one night here (thanks Patty)  and a "gourmet"sausage sizzle which was a lot of fun.....even dancing one night!

The Spangled Emperors.... from left John, Tony, Merv & Kel (all fishermen).   While the girls were swimming the boys were hunting & gathering for our dinner!    The fishing here is a little different from what Tony is used to so it was quite a challenge... but.......

We finally have a fish meal...... Golden Trevalley (on left) & Spangled Emperor.... check out the smile on the face (Tony's that is!)

King Kel was first to catch a large Spangled Emperor (who became King for the day), until he had to  reluctantly hand over the King's Crown to Tony.   Tony was aso annoited with the fishing rod!

Must have had a few drinks this night.... I decided to try the Didgerideoo (as did everyone else) & as our tunes, if you can call them that, were quite hillarious,  I think you will be glad to know that I won't be taking up Didgeridoo playing..... I will leave this to Tony who can now play quite a good tune..... Mark & Karen if you are reading this Blog - Tony has improved quite a lot with the Didg playing since we have seen you!

Apart from the water we carried with us in the van the only water available here was salty bore water which had to be collected from 3km away in containers.   We all found containers at the rubbish tip area which other campers had left to fill up with water.    We had to become very frugal with what water we had in the van & used the bore water for washing hands, flushing the toilet, washing dishes, etc.

We managed quite well for the week without power though.

Campers could only access Warroora camp if you had your own chemical toilet (& yes we had to use it for everything!!)   It was quite a journey to empty the toilet every 2 days, take our own rubbish to the tip & collect more water......& hopefully see a little bit more firewood on the way for our fires!

Our last Happy Hour went very late on the last night........ Our fish meal we had planned for dinner changed to Bacon & Eggs & straight to bed...... One person was a little seedy the next morning (no-one in our caravan though!)

Even though we didn't have the luxury of long, hot showers, plenty of water & power we were all sorry to leave this little piece of paradise.....
